The reprint of the Pharos Afrikaans-English/English-Afrikaans Dictionary, which was first published in 2005, is available from October 2010. In this reprint edition special attention was given to correct, amongst others, typographical errors (gauge instead of auge), punctuation, spacing, blatant mistakes (a near collision instead of ’n near collision), wrong syllabification (clawed instead of claw•ed) and to rework and refine the use of the hyphen (standoffish instead of stand-offish).
In the dictionary’s nearly 5 000 columns translations are given for more than 200 000 headwords and more than 120 000 phrases and expressions, roughly half from English into Afrikaans and half from Afrikaans into English.
The up-to-date coverage of all fields of human habitat and thought, coupled with a myriad of accurate translations, makes this dictionary the definitive reference work in its field. Writers, editors, translators, interpreters, teachers, students and business people will find it an indispensable tool for effective communication and idiomatically correct expression in speech and writing.
